Exelon PowerLabs Validates Quality Management with ISO 9001
Calibration and testing is a highly competitive, $6 billion industry. Exelon PowerLabs, LLC enjoys a growing market share by providing the most diverse testing (electrical, mechanical, metallurgical, chemical) and calibration (measuring and test equipment) services in the industry. Staying ahead of the competition also requires a stringent quality assurance program.
Fulfilling customer quality expectations is part of a successful equation. Initially, numerous customers performed audits on an annual basis to demonstrate the effectiveness of PowerLabs' Quality Assurance Program. These audits meant added cost, time and resources for both customers and PowerLabs.
The obvious path to efficiency and industry recognition of PowerLabs' quality program, according to Timothy Baxter, Manager, Quality Integration, was ISO 9001:2000 registration with QMI.
"Registration to the ISO 9000 standard means validation for the quality we always maintained through our nuclear experience," said Baxter. "Recognition by an international body proved that our management program achieved the level that customers demanded."
Baxter said registration has formalized methods for effectively resolving customer complaints and maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction. Exelon PowerLabs adjusts the quality program when necessary to maintain the existing high and steady rate of quality and customer satisfaction. "I believe registration has brought us more customers," Baxter said. He added that QMI's auditors outlined the necessary system and customer service improvements.
